NORAD Tracking Santa with Cesium
Cesium is once again part of the NORAD Tracks Santa® team, helping track Santa on his Christmas Eve trip around the globe. You can keep up-to-date on Santa’s current location at www.noradsanta.org. Many of the updates to Cesium over this past year will make the Santa tracking experience better than ever. The screenshots below are based on historical data, as we won’t know this year’s route until NORAD starts tracking on Christmas Eve.
glTF 1.0
The NORAD Santa Tracking application takes advantage of the Khronos standard glTF 1.0. Cesium added glTF 1.0 support in Cesium 1.15, making it one of the first viewers to support the new standard.
Terrain Improvements
Over the last year, we’ve optimized Cesium’s terrain rendering. We have seen great improvements in both terrain performance and memory usage. This will ensure our Santa tracking experience will be responsive even as he’s traveling over very mountainous regions.
