Developed control and interface schematics and PCB for custom illuminator control system including a control box and a user-interface pendant. Helped with assembly and developed all related firmware.

Ported “Dot” custom 2-D Matrix Code recognition system to micro-Linux platform. PCB CAD and layout for CCD image-sensor board. Image acquisition integration and debugging.

Portable Merchant Charge Processing
Licensed Palm-organizer PCMCIA interface technology for a custom handheld merchant terminal with wireless capabilities. Made PCB design and layout for the “motherboard” which provided the PCMCIA slot for wireless communication cards and integrated peripherals. Made custom support firmware. Assembled, debugged and tested the prototypes.

Created an adaptive threshold image processing application on a PC system for detecting gaps in polymer coating on sheet metal.

Designed and tested feature-extraction and edge-detection algorithms for measuring dimensions of aluminum wire bonds on IC's. Developed lighting and optics, system software, and operator interface.

Radish Inspection
Designed inspection algorithms for detecting color and shape defects. Made drivers and support software for Datacube and custom boards, SUN-based simulation, and TCP/IP Ethernet communication.

Implemented a signal processing acquisition and analysis platform, with signal pattern recognition algorithms, for identifying magnetic patterns in ink.

Designed and simulated signal sampling and data compression to collect 24 hours' data in a portable monitor with 20 min. capacity.

PLCC Lead Inspection
Maintained an old, embedded image processing system and implemented a new, PC-based system for dimension measurement of PLCC package leads. Developed communication interfaces for automation. Prototyped a high-resolution, next-generation platform.

PLCC Lead Inspection
Designed and optimized image processing algorithms for critical dimension measurement of PLCC packages. Designed and implemented strategy and protocols for communication among image processing subsystem, host system controller, and parts handling robot. Designed real-time submultiplexing hardware for video input pipeline.
